Our Community Commitments

As a company and as individuals, we ensure that Light Trail collectively walks-the-walk with our commitment toward a happier global community. We are pleased to be able to count ourselves as members of several key purpose-driven communities, all of which align with our company priorities.

Light Trail is Canada’s First Benefit Company

In July 2020 Light Trail became a Benefit Company. In addition to certification, we pioneered the legal process to reincorporate and further committed Light Trail to conduct business in a responsible and sustainable way. This embedded those same values and purpose within our legal framework.

The legislation came into effect in BC on 30th June 2020 and was the first of its kind in Canada. Light Trail led the way in the Province and joined companies in over 35 States in the USA and other countries around the world that have enacted a similar legal practice to create a solid foundation for long-term mission alignment.

Light Trail is a Certified B Corp

A Certified B Corp means that we are committed to using our business as a force for good while meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Originally certified in 2015, we continue to re-certify and work on improvements within our business. Visit our B Corp page to find out more about the process, and see how Light Trail Consulting can help your organization measure and improve your impact with the B Corp framework.

We can show you how to balance purpose, profit and responsible practices that are good for your people, your communities and the planet.

Light Trail is a Member of 1% For The Planet

We are very conscious of our impact on the environment in all aspects of business and personal life. We’re not perfect though, and recognize other organizations are striving to protect and regenerate aspects of our natural world that are significantly impacted by the way we live our lives.

In recognition of these efforts, we became a member of 1% For The Planet, joining many other businesses as the engines of positive environmental change. 1% For The Planet’s mission is to build, support and activate an alliance of businesses that are financially committed to creating a healthier planet. Through this organization, Light Trail donates 1% of its revenue to connect and support others in their work to create a new environmental legacy.

We Are Part Of The Community

Ingrained within the DNA of our company is a commitment to our community. We love working with community service organizations and through our governance practices ensure that all Light Trail employees provide at least 10 hours of community service work each month.

Light Trail currently supports Peace Arch Hospice, Squamish Helping Hands and B Local Vancouver through our volunteer Board work.

Light Trail Supports Local

Through our work to build the effectiveness of people and their organizations, we also recognize the importance of working with local companies, non-profits and other community service organizations to help grow and support our own local economy.

While we do work with national and international clients, we always aim to focus the majority of our time working with local clients to help build capability and resilience in our own communities. In addition, we aim to buy as much as possible from local companies, having set clear targets for both local purchasing and the clients we serve.

If you’re interested in introducing or expanding your positive impact within your community, we’d be happy to help

Greg and Steve at Light Trail were able to bring members together around common goals, clarify purpose and resources and develop processes that put our teams in a great position to implement. They bring complementary skills to managing teams, and unlike many ‘cookie-cutter’ strategic planners, truly are committed to understanding the values and principles of the organization and working with the team until they are comfortable with completing the implementation. I would highly recommend Light Trail if your organization is wanting to better understand optimal function/ structure relationships and achieve its goals.
